15.03.2012 – Boysen builds a new production plant near Bremen

Automotive supplier investing 40 million Euro and creating 120 jobs

Altensteig, 15th March 2012 - Friedrich Boysen GmbH & Co. KG is building a new plant in Achim near Bremen for production of exhaust technology for cars. This was announced by Boysen CEO, Rolf Geisel, on Thursday 15th March at the company's headquarters in Altensteig. According to Geisel, the automotive supplier will be investing around 40 million Euro in the first phase at the Achim site. By 2014, around 120 jobs will be created at Boysen Abgassysteme Achim GmbH & Co. KG (BAA). Construction work at the Uesen industrial park directly on the A27 motorway will start in April. Production is set to start in a year.

"We will manufacture complete exhaust systems for Mercedes in Achim", said Geisel. The systems will be delivered just-in-sequence to the Mercedes Bremen plant around ten kilometres away. The premium car manufacturer produces a range of different models in Bremen. Daimler has announced that, with the launch of the next generation of the C Class, the plant will become a competence centre for the high-volume series.

The Boysen plant in Achim will be the exhaust technology specialist's fifth plant in Germany and the first in the north of the country. Two of the four existing plants are in Baden-Württemberg (Altensteig, Simmersfeld) with one each in Bavaria (Salching) and Saxony (Plauen). The medium-sized company has a total of around 1600 employees in Germany. Boysen has a further 300 employees at its five international sites in France, Egypt, India, China and the USA.

The Boysen plant in Achim is the first in a series of construction projects planned by the group of companies. In August 2011, CEO Rolf Geisel announced that Boysen will build four new plants by 2014. Geisel named Northern Germany, China, South Africa and the USA as the locations for the new sites. He put the investment volume at around 300 million Euro. According to the company, a fifth new plant is also possible. However, no firm decision has been made yet.

Boysen develops and produces manifolds, catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters, silencers and complete exhaust systems for cars, commercial vehicles and off-highway applications. The company's major customers include the German vehicle manufacturers Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche and VW, the English brands Bentley and Rolls Royce and the commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN.

The group of companies currently employs around 1900 people at eleven domestic and international sites. In addition to the development and administration centre and production plants in Altensteig, Boysen has production sites in Simmersfeld, Salching and Plauen, and also in France, Egypt, India, China and the USA. According to preliminary reports, the exhaust technology specialist is set to achieve a record turnover of 940 million Euro in the 2011 financial year (to 31st December).
