Since 1996, the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation has been supporting academic research in the field of environmental technology with an annual subsidy amount of well over one million euros. The foundation also awards prizes for outstanding student papers, dissertations and doctoral theses in the field of environmental technology and environmental protection at the University of Stuttgart, Dresden TU and the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT).
In July 2012, the interdisciplinary "Boysen / Dresden TU postgraduate research group for sustainable energy systems" was officially launched at Dresden Technical University. The research group provides the basis for collaborative work by as many as twenty doctoral candidates from different disciplines. The funding concept is currently in its third year.
