Since 1996, the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation has been supporting science and research in the field of environmental technology with annual funding totalling around 1.5 million euros. Among other things, the foundation also awards prizes for outstanding degree, diploma and doctoral theses in the field of environmental technology and environmental protection at the University of Stuttgart, TU Dresden and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
The number of scholarships awarded annually to doctoral students at the three partner universities currently stands at around 40 to 45 scholarships and is rising steadily.
The first interdisciplinary "Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group on Sustainable Energy Systems" was officially inaugurated at the Technische Universität Dresden in July 2012. The programme forms the basis for the joint work of around 20 doctoral students from various disciplines. The concept is currently in its fourth funding period, which started in 2023 under the title "Hydrogen Economy - Strategic Element of a Future Green Gas Deal".
