With the construction of its own hydrogen development center at Simmersfeld, the Boysen Group is setting another future-oriented milestone in the course of its technological transformation. The groundbreaking ceremony for this major project took place in October 2022, with completion scheduled for early/mid-2024. The investment volume is around 40 million euros.
The immediate vicinity to our BAK production plant and the direct transport connection to the federal highway 294 opens up an optimal environment for the hydrogen development center and its employees to work and live. There is also an effective link between the planned hydrogen infrastructure and the on-site production facilities. In the future, green electricity will be generated at the site using photovoltaics, the energy from which will be converted into hydrogen as an energy carrier with the aid of electrolysers. The hydrogen produced will be used directly at the site in production, in the development center or via a dedicated hydrogen filling station for cars and commercial vehicles.
The energy turnaround can only succeed if the full potential of the future technology "hydrogen" is exploited. For this reason, application-oriented research for hydrogen-based technologies is the focus at the Simmersfeld Research and Development Center. Development focuses on the generation of hydrogen (via electrolysers), its storage (by means of chemical storage such as LOHC, methanol or ammonia) and its reconversion into electricity by means of stationary/mobile fuel cells (polymer electrolyte membrane and direct alcohol fuel cells).
The state-of-the-art equipment and the resulting possibilities of the hydrogen development center form the basis for trend-setting innovations. Planned facilities include chemistry laboratories, rooms for diagnostics and analytics, workshops and various test rooms. The extensive test field will be equipped with state-of-the-art test stands for stacks, systems and individual components.
If you convince us, you will initially start your new research and development work at the BIN Boysen Innovation Center Nagold. After completion of our hydrogen development center, the move to Simmersfeld will take place in 2024.
We are mainly looking for development engineers and chemists in the field of fuel cells/electrolysis.
