10.09.2025 – Geisel advocates for the northern Black Forest with Minister President Kretschmann

Boysen Group welcomes the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg to IAA Mobility in Munich

Altensteig/Munich. The Boysen Group is presenting itself at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich this week with the heading ‘Technologies for Transformation’. The way in which the Altensteig-based company is implementing technological change from its core business of exhaust technology to new product groups for alternative drive systems has also impressed Baden-Württemberg's Minister President Winfried Kretschmann.

At the opening of the IAA by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) on Tuesday, Kretschmann called for a more flexible interpretation of the combustion engine ban planned for 2035 within the EU. He stressed the importance of the economy remaining committed to the goal of climate neutrality. The Green politician saw this for himself during his tour of the Boysen Group's exhibition stand, which is prominently located in Hall A1: directly opposite, BMW is showcasing its "Neue Klasse" at its home game in Munich – equipped with Boysen battery cases.

Rolf Geisel (Chairman of the Supervisory Board), Dr Till Scharf (Chief Executive Officer) and Matthias Schöttle (Chief Sales Officer) informed Kretschmann about the company's current development. In addition to its core business of exhaust technology, the Boysen Group has tapped into a new business area in recent years with the development and manufacture of battery cases for electric vehicles. This is evidenced by two major orders from premium manufacturers BMW and Mercedes-AMG. Series production of battery cases at the two new Boysen plants in Nyíregyháza (Hungary) and Nagold (northern Black Forest) is currently already ramping up.

In addition to the production facility in Nagold, another commitment to Germany as a business location is the new development centre in Simmersfeld, where Boysen is further expanding its range of services in the new battery case business. The focus is also on the production and use of hydrogen and the further development of stationary energy storage systems in the form of flow batteries.

The Boysen group also wants to lead the way in the expansion of renewable energies, as Rolf Geisel explained. A dedicated wind farm is planned at the Simmersfeld site – with five latest-generation wind turbines that will generate around 90 million kilowatt hours of green electricity per year, saving around 65,000 tonnes of CO2. "The administrative procedures have been successfully completed, but unfortunately, at this crucial stage, it is becoming apparent that the existing grids are not sufficient to carry our electricity." Geisel believes that his home region – and in particular the district of Calw, where Boysen has four development and four production sites – is also lagging behind in terms of transport infrastructure development, which does not exactly make it easier to remain loyal to the location.

"The northern Black Forest is often overlooked when important decisions are made in Stuttgart," Geisel said, addressing Winfried Kretschmann. The state premier promised to take a closer look at the issues raised and asked for detailed case descriptions to be provided after the IAA.

In addition to Winfried Kretschmann and Thomas Hentschel (Green Party member of the state parliament and spokesperson for justice, climate-neutral drives & tourism), other high-ranking visitors to the Boysen exhibition stand have included Andreas Stoch (chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Baden-Württemberg), Cem Özdemir (Green Party) and Ola Källenius (CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG).

The core business of the Boysen Group, headquartered in Altensteig (Baden-Württemberg), is the development and production of high-performance exhaust systems and components for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and off-highway applications. In addition to the three main customers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the exhaust technology specialist works for the German car manufacturers Volkswagen and Porsche, the British brands Bentley and Rolls-Royce, the commercial vehicle manufacturers Daimler Truck and MAN as well as in the field of off-highway applications for Krauss Maffei, mtu, Voith and others.

The Boysen Group has been driving forward its technological transformation since 2016. With new product groups such as battery housings, hydrogen fuelling systems, control elements and electronic components, the next chapter in the company's 100-year history is being written. Further building blocks of the future strategy are the production of energy storage systems (redox flow battery systems) and fuel cells as well as basic and product development in the field of hydrogen technology.

The Boysen Group is a foundation company and currently employs around 5,300 people at 30 locations in Germany and abroad. In addition to the development sites in Altensteig, Nagold and Simmersfeld, Boysen has production sites in Altensteig, Simmersfeld, Heubach, Salching, Ingolstadt, Plauen and Achim as well as in France, Egypt, South Africa, India, China, Mexico, Hungary, Serbia, Romania and the USA.
